Home / The Atelier
One room, one standard
Appgear Atelier is a small bespoke workshop above Jalan Telawi. Here is who we are and how we came to be sewing in Bangsar.
Our story
Started with a borrowed machine
The atelier began in 2012 as a single alteration bench at the back of a Bangsar laundrette — one borrowed sewing machine and a promise to return every garment better than it arrived. Suits followed shirts, weddings followed suits, and in 2021 we took the floor above Jalan Telawi 3 and registered as Appgear Atelier Sdn Bhd.
Fourteen years on, the discipline hasn't changed: measure honestly, cut carefully, and never let a garment leave the room until we would wear it ourselves.
How we work
Everything under one roof
Nothing is outsourced. Measuring, pattern drafting, cutting, sewing, buttonholes and pressing all happen within twenty steps of the consultation chairs. It keeps our lead times honest and our accountability total.
- Personal paper pattern drafted and archived for every client
- Two fittings included with every suit and gown commission
- Swatch library of 400+ cloths graded for tropical wear
- Hand-finished details: pick stitching, functional cuffs, monograms
- Free final adjustments on every commission
Principles
Three promises we cut by
Fit before fashion
Trends pass through the atelier; posture does not. We cut for how you stand, sit and move before we discuss lapel widths.
Cloth for this climate
Every fabric in the library earns its place by surviving a Malaysian afternoon — breathability and recovery first, mill prestige second.
Priced in writing
You receive a full written quotation before the shears touch cloth. The number you approve is the number you pay.
